7 Summer Skincare Essentials Every Spiritualist Needs

Summer, summer, summertime! ‘Tis the season for sun and fun and basking in the rays that enrich our days. The sun is life, and for many spiritualists, working with this beautiful ball of fire in the sky is essential.

As a Reiki Master, I LOVE facilitating healing sessions, both private and in groups, outside, under the sun. In fact, I’m hosting my first spiritual retreat this August in Puerto Rico! Tropical sun, here we come!

While I would love to be sundrenched all day, my skin won’t allow it. I often experience heat rash, which causes lots of tiny little bumps to appear on my skin, and itchiness that lasts for days. So, I’ve made it a habit to seek out tools that I can use to host these beautiful spiritual gatherings and keep our biggest organ in the body healthy.

Yup, that’s right. If you didn’t know already, our skin is the body’s largest organ. Therefore, taking care of it should be a top priority no matter what season we’re in. But when that sun is beaming brightly and the heat gets turned up, our skin needs TLC to get through the summertime months.

Sun Hats and Head Wraps

Covering your head with a head wrap or wide brimmed hat is an easy way to gift yourself some crown chakra protection as you navigate your sunny days. If you’re leading a group through a beautiful spiritual workshop, you can move about with confidence. No need to squint your eyes or feel the onset of a headache from too much sun beaming down on the top of your head. The head wrap serves as protection from the sun and from too much energy output. Protect your crown!

Sun Umbrella

Long gone are the days when I could just freely walk around on sunny days without an option for shade close by. So, on the days I’m not rocking a sun hat, my go-to is a cute sun umbrella with UV protection. Whether its for a long walk on the beach or trekking through the city on a summer day, a sun umbrella is a wonderful companion. You can put it away when you don’t need it and whip it out when you do. They come in so many varieties these days. You’re sure to find one that fits your personal style. Protecting your skin is the icing on the cake!

Shades for Days

Nothing complements a cute summer fit like a pair of stylish shades. With so many options nowadays, it may get a little overwhelming to find a pair that is just right for you. So, if you can, opt in for a few pairs to have options when putting your #ootd together. I like to keep it simple with a couple of solid colors and maybe one or two patterned specks.

Sleek Summer Shawl

Flowy clothing in the summer is a must. It feels good against the skin and keeps you cool and protected from harsh sun rays. I often wear white or light colors when facilitating spiritual gatherings outside. So, there’s nothing like having a lightweight shawl or wrap to wear over a summer dress. It can spruce up any outfit and offer the comfort and protection you need.

Eco-Friendly Sunblock

Sunblock should be something we incorporate into our daily skincare routine whether it’s summer or not. But during the hottest months of the year, having a good sunblock on hand is super important. Equally as important is the product you choose. Many sunblocks can be harmful to the environment, so be sure to choose one that’s protecting you and Mother Earth.

Stylish Water Shoes

During my summer retreat, attendees will indulge in a hike through El Yunque, the rainforest in Puerto Rico. For our trek, it’s important to have comfy, waterproof shoes with a good grip. This way we can get in and out of the water with ease while ensuring there won’t be unnecessary slips and falls on the trails. Having water shoes is a great way to enjoy the elements of the beach or rainforest while protecting your feet. Trust me, after a mishap while living in Hawaii when I swam out to a coral reef barefoot, I quickly learned the importance of wearing water shoes. Don’t leave home without them!

Big Bad Beach Bag

Grab yourself a big bad beach bag to make life easier on the days you’re leading workshops in the sand. This makes life easier when you have to just throw some beach and spiritual workshop essentials into a big bag and go. Looking for bags that are waterproof and sand resistant is great, too! With so many options out there, you can surely find one or a few that fit your aesthetic.
